skies open up to me
my feet rooted to this earth
hands as trembling branches
sing your songs in memories
they dressed differently
hiding behind the door to the world
my people were simple
from small towns
swallowed up by the city
books became the bridges
all your dead relatives
wait on the other side
my first funeral
for a stranger
for the fairy tales
that kids believe in less
while death forms
only becoming more real
Hands out, head down, eyes closed, hope they just go away
there i was at five-years-old
telling me to push you
off the platform
didn't think i should
when you reassured me
watching you fall
something shifted inside of me
i ran but it was too late
i was already seen
there i was at ten-years-old
still trying to hide
from falling to fear
my smile was real
for which they despise
and wish to take away
something's breaking inside
their fingers pointed
i just want to feel safe
telling me to push you
off the platform
didn't think i should
when you reassured me
watching you fall
something shifted inside of me
i ran but it was too late
i was already seen
there i was at ten-years-old
still trying to hide
from falling to fear
my smile was real
for which they despise
and wish to take away
something's breaking inside
their fingers pointed
i just want to feel safe
After dreaming
Waiting's not easy
For the drive that will bring
Me back to you
After work coming from
The far side of the city
It's not so bad where we live
Getting better everyday
Not as afraid to walk around
With you
Let's go to the park
The swans here
Don't seem to mind
The sounds of cars passing by
Gentle waves
To drift off to sleep
Reminding me of quiet times
When waking up
And this is all you'll hear
With the birds to sing along
For the drive that will bring
Me back to you
After work coming from
The far side of the city
It's not so bad where we live
Getting better everyday
Not as afraid to walk around
With you
Let's go to the park
The swans here
Don't seem to mind
The sounds of cars passing by
Gentle waves
To drift off to sleep
Reminding me of quiet times
When waking up
And this is all you'll hear
With the birds to sing along
Beneath the swans (Remember to breathe)
Swans are sailing
Holding court
Over calm surfaces
Their carriages
Of regal bearing
Pipes of Pan are playing
Too loud
For me to hear
What lovely swans
Are saying
I don't walk on water
Could drown
With none to hear
But won't believe
These sudden fears
Or need to fight
(Without challenger)
Of flight
(Without feather)
So do nothing dear
Holding court
Over calm surfaces
Their carriages
Of regal bearing
Pipes of Pan are playing
Too loud
For me to hear
What lovely swans
Are saying
I don't walk on water
Could drown
With none to hear
But won't believe
These sudden fears
Or need to fight
(Without challenger)
Of flight
(Without feather)
So do nothing dear
